On August 4, 1986, the theft of Picasso’s Weeping Woman was discovered at the National Gallery of Victoria. A group calling itself the Australian Cultural Terrorists claimed responsibility for the theft, saying the painting would be destroyed if the group’s demands were not met in seven days.
