Name That Shifter, No. 63: 1977 Chevrolet Monza Spyder

Name That Shifter, No. 63: 1977 Chevrolet Monza SpyderOn Monday we presented this week’s shifter and asked you to identify the make and model of the vehicle from whence it came. Many of you guessed that the shifter came from a 1970s Chevrolet Vega; you were very close. It is in fact from a 1977 Chevrolet Monza, a coupe based off of the Vega. (The two cars have similar shifters—but their center consoles are different.) The first commenter to correctly identify it was Gerald, who will receive a Save the Manuals button and sticker as a reward.

The Monza pictured here is the arachnophilic Spyder model, which graced the cover of our September 1976 issue. The Spyder treatment included the Monza’s available 140-hp V-8, a sportier suspension tune, and all of those glorious spider decals inside and out. What kind of performance did this road-burner boast? Try 0-to-60 mph in 10.5 seconds.
