For genetic variety, Delhi zoo plans exchange of animals

To increase species diversity and maintain its diverse genetic pool, the Delhi zoo plans to bring in more herbivores, including sika or Japanese deer. The last Japanese deer in the zoo was killed by feral dogs in November. According to zoo officials, more chinkaras or Indian gazelles will also be brought.
