Not possible to collect data of illegal migrants living in various parts of country: Centre to SC

Centre informs Supreme Court about the constitutional validity of section 6A of the Citizenship Act relating to illegal immigrants in Assam. The Centre says it is not possible to collect accurate data of illegal migrants as entry is clandestine. 17,861 people have been granted citizenship and 32,381 people have been detected as foreigners. The Centre provides figures on deportation, pending cases, and measures to deal with illegal immigration. The Supreme Court asks for data on Bangladeshi immigrants granted Indian citizenship in Assam between 1966 and 1971.
