Centre to SC: For 73 years, ECs appointed exclusively by government

Responding to objections against the selection of election commissioners (ECs) by a panel consisting of the Prime Minister, a Cabinet minister, and the leader of the opposition, the government informed the Supreme Court that historically, ECs have been appointed solely by the government without any specific legislation.
