GoDaddy outage takes down thousands of small-business websitesby

A possible hack attack has been blamed as the cause for thousands of small-business websites hosted by GoDaddy to become inaccessible on Monday

GoDaddy, one of the world's largest domain registration and web hosting companies, has suffered a major outage following an alleged hack attack on Monday.

"We are experiencing problems," GoDaddy CEO Scott Wagner wrote on the company website. "We understand this is impacting some customers, and we take this situation very seriously. Everyone at GoDaddy.com is working to restore all sites affected by this outage as soon as possible."

GoDaddy, which has more than 9.3 million customers and manages as many as 48 million domain names, tweeted later that it was "making progress" and "some service has already been restored."

Speculation that GoDaddy had fallen victim to a hack attack were fuelled by hacking group Anonymous claiming responsibility for the outage on twitter - but its involvement remains unconfirmed.
