Qatar- Museums organise virtual activities during Ramadan

(MENAFN - The Peninsula) A number of museums in Qatar are organising online activities in celebration of the holy month of Ramadan. The Qatar Children's Museum (QCM) has announced it will hold Garangao workshop in which families are invited to learn the traditional way of basket weaving used in making native Garangao baskets which hold sweets and nuts. The workshop will teach the participants how to make keychains and bookmarks following the traditional basket weaving method. There will be two sessions to be held on April 24 via Zoom, one from 9am to 10am and another from 11am to 12pm, said QCM in a social media post. The sessions, which will be conducted in Arabic with English translation, are open to Culture Pass members with children aged six to 11 years old. The Sheikh Faisal Bin Qassim Al Thani Museum (FBQ Museum), on the other hand, has announced in its latest newsletter it will be holding its first free-of-charge virtual educational programme called Behind an Object, There is a Story which evokes Hakawati - the traditional art of storytelling, explored through the artifacts on display. The programme, which will kick off on April 29, will take young participants aged seven to 12 years on a journey through three stories which delve into Qatari culture and heritage namely 'A Day in Qatar's Old Times, 'Nun and the Pen, and What They Write Together and 'The Memory Box. In addition, FBQ Museum will also be sharing weekly on social media a series of 'Museum Sparks from its Qur'an room in which the museum team will narrate insights and anecdotes. The 3-2-1 Qatar Olympic and Sports Museum said on its official social media accounts that during Ramadan it would broadcast interviews with some of the most prominent athletes engaged in different sports. These interviews are part of the museum's participation in Doha Capital of Culture in the Islamic World 2021 activities 'introducing the most important and prominent athletes, and linking their stories to the values and principles of respect, responsibility and diligence. Other cultural institutions are also organising virtual activities and events during the holy month such as the Cultural Village Foundation (Katara) which recently announced a series of competitions, events and art exhibitions all held online in line with COVID-19 precautionary measures being implemented in the country.MENAFN17042021000063011010ID1101932220
