A magnitude-4.4 earthquake jolted Southern California late Tuesday night, with no reports of any injuries or major damage

LOS ANGELES, CA -- A moderate earthquake rattled the Los Angeles area in Southern California on Tuesday night. There were no reports of any major damage or injuries caused by the 4.4-magnitude quake which was centered two miles east of Yorba Lunda in Northern Orange County, about 35 miles southwest of Los Angeles.

Within a minute of striking the area at 11.23pm PST on Tuesday night, the quake was followed by two aftershocks - one measuring 2.7 on the Richter scale.

Earthquakes in California are common occurrences as the state is located on the San Andreas Fault, which cuts across California and forms the tectonic boundary between the Pacific and the North American Plate.

A preliminary check following Tuesday's quake found no damage, the Los Angeles Fire Department reported.
