Deadly shooting New York's Empire State Building leaves 2 dead, several injuredby

Two people were killed and up to a further eight wounded during a shoot-out at the Empire State Building in New York City

NEW YORK -- Two people were shot dead and up to eight others wounded in a shooting near New York's Empire State Building on Friday morning. One of the dead is the gunman himself, who reportedly was killed by police officers.

A spokesperson for the New York Fire Department said emergency units were on the scene within minutes of a call about the shooting received just after 9.00am EDT on Friday.

Police said there was no apparent link to terrorism.

The 102-story Empire State Building is located at the intersection of Fifth Avenue and West 34th Street in Midtown Manhattan, and is one of New York's main tourist attractions.
