Man Turning Home Into Church To Keep Dead Wife Buried in Yard

Man Turning Home Into Church To Keep Dead Wife Buried in YardSTEVENSON, Alabama (WAFF) - Last week, a Stevenson man's appeal to keep his wife's body buried in his front yard was denied by the Alabama Supreme Court. This week, the man has come up with a new approach in order to fight the decision - turn his home into a church.

In 2009, James Davis' wife, Patsy, died and he made a grave for her in his front yard despite objections from the city council. Davis has fought to keep the grave where it is over the last few years through a series of appeals.

But in the wake of the court order to remove her body, Davis is hoping to take the case before a federal judge....after he converts his home to a church. He believes churches have special protections under law and is currently in the process of converting his home. He also plans to ask the circuit judge for a six month delay in her ruling, to give him time to take his case to federal court.

Davis also said that if he is forced to remove her, he plans to put her right back in the same spot: "Forever more, that is my grave site. People passing by won't know she's not there. And she won't be because I'm going to cremate her. They can't stop me from cremating her and putting her back, and that's where she'll go," he said.

On Davis' new website for his home/church it reads:

A Family-oriented Bible Believing Church

Baptisms, Weddings, On Site Cemetery
