A strong undersea earthquake shook Indonesia's Aceh province, but caused no serious damage or casualties. The magnitude 5.9 earthquake occurred east of Sinabang at a depth of 10 kilometers. Indonesia's Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysical Agency warned of possible aftershocks but stated there was no tsunami threat. Indonesia is prone to earthquakes and volcanic eruptions due to its location on the "Ring of Fire." Recent deadly earthquakes in West Java and Sulawesi have caused significant loss of life.
