More than 14,000 residents and tourists were forced to evacuate the city of Gatlinburg in Tennessee's Great Smoky Mountains as wildfires spread rapidly Monday night and into Tuesday. Three people were killed and hundreds of homes were destroyed in the fires fanned by hurricane-force winds. Police officers went door-to-door in the area telling people to get out immediately. One woman who was working at an inn in the city said, "There was fire everywhere. It was like we were in hell.
