Security Council SanctionsOn Wednesday the United Nations Security Council imposed new sanctions on North Korea, in response to Pyongyang's fifth and largest nuclear test, which occurred in September of 2016. The 15-member council unanimously voted for a resolution that would decrease North Korean coal exports by 60 percent, and place an annual cap of 7.5 million metric tonnes - equivalent to just over $400 million - on sales.
