The U.S. First Family, led by President Barack Obama, lit the National Christmas Tree at the White House for the eighth and final time. The ceremony was hosted by Eva Longoria and included performers Garth Brooks, Trisha Yearwood, Kelly Clarkson, Marc Anthony, Yolanda Adams, The Lumineers, James Taylor and Chance the Rapper. Obama, reflecting on his eight years in office, told the audience, "What I've seen is a big-hearted and hopeful and resilient people who look out for each other."
