ElectraMeccanica unveils final features of new SOLO EV car and prepares for its Los Angeles debut

ElectraMeccanica Vehicles Corp. (NASDAQ:SOLO), the Canadian electric vehicles manufacturer, revealed Tuesday that it has put the last finishing touches on its generation three SOLO EV, a three-wheeler microcar, in preparation for production.  The latest version of its flagship SOLO car, which boasts a sticker price of $18,500, is an electric single-seat vehicle with electronic power steering, a robust sound system complete with Bluetooth connectivity, and power brakes that is set to be unveiled on the streets of Los Angeles first this year and in other cities along the West Coast of the US after that. It’s all-electric similar to a Tesla (NASDAQ:TSLA), but a far more affordable choice.  READ: ElectraMeccanica to debut SOLO electric vehicle at Los Angeles shopping mall The vehicle, which boasts a top speed of 100 miles per hour on a 17.3-kilowatt hour battery pack, debuted on a Forbes list of the “coolest new cars” for 2020 alongside brands like Cadillac and Tesla. “Today, I am pleased to announce the final features of the Generation 3 SOLO design, which will be implemented into commercial production later this year with our strategic contract manufacturing partner in China, Zongshen Industrials Group,” said Paul Rivera, CEO of ElectraMeccanica in a statement. To prepare for the launch, ElectraMeccanica took delivery of 50 pilot vehicles in 2019 from its strategic manufacturing partner in China, the Zongshen Industrial Group. The cars were deployed for on-road validation testing throughout the US and Canada. Rivera said the “real world tests” resulted in engineering changes to the vehicles including switching to a liquid-cooled electric drive, modifying the steering geometry and the fine-tuning of the electronic power steering. The latest version of the SOLO EV cruises at highway speeds and can be charged via a regular household (110v) socket in less than six hours.
