Clubhouse, an audio-only chat app, has recently closed a funding round that reportedly values the company at around US$4bn. A report from Reuters overnight credited a source familiar with the matter for the multi-billion dollar figure, after the company announced the closing of the funding round at a town hall on Sunday without stating the amount raised. The fundraising was led by venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz, with other major investors including internet-focused private equity group DST Global, Tiger Global Management and angel investor Elad Gil. Founded in April last year, Clubhouse, which allows people to join audio-only discussions through invite-only chatrooms, saw its popularity surge in the first months of 2020 thanks to its use by multiple high-profile figures including Tesla Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) boss Elon Musk and Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) founder Mark Zuckerberg.
