Doug Duncan’s name is recognizable to anyone who lived in the D.C. region during the ‘80s and ‘90s. At the age of 26, Duncan was elected to the Rockville City Council. He went on to be mayor in 1987, and served as Montgomery County Executive from 1994 to 2006. Even then, he was focused on diversity, equity and inclusion by creating Rockville’s first Pride Day and starting one of the first Juneteenth celebrations in the country.
