Is Trump’s Hollywood Star Getting Removed?

Is Trump’s Hollywood Star Getting Removed?by 👩‍💻 Stephanie Boyd

Yes – US President Donald Trump indeed had his own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in LA long before taking up office, though it’s perhaps bizarre now to imagine the time before he first hit the Republican campaign trail back in 2016. Before then, of course, he was well-known for his business deals, his occasional cameos in Home Alone 2 and WWE and, of course, for his long stint in charge of The Apprentice. Since Trump’s rise to office, his star on the Walk of Fame has remained in place – but it seems that a recent vote may have put paid to it being there for much longer.

According to the results of a vote between those sitting on West Hollywood City Council, the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce has been recommended to remove Trump’s star outright – with mayor John Duran having announced the decision on Twitter recently. Leading with hashtags such as ‘#horcruxdestroyed, #unAmerican values and #MakeAmericaintoAmericaAgain’, tongues have been set wagging as to why such a recommendation has been made. It’s a known fact that Trump’s star has been the subject of vandalism and outright destruction in recent times (it famously boasted its own ‘border wall’ installed towards the start of the President’s tenure) – but the suggestion goes against previous assertions that no stars will ever be removed from the Walk.

It’s emerged that the Council in question found a number of elements to Trump’s behaviour in and out of the White House to be distasteful – ranging from concerns about the President’s attitude towards women to the controversial border child separation policy and his stance on the Paris Climate Change Agreement. A report pursued by the Council appears to cement concerns that Trump remains undeserving of the star accolade. “Allowing Mr Trump to continue to have a star in light of his behavior towards women, particularly in the #timesup and #metoo movements, should not be acceptable in the Hollywood and entertainment industry communities,” the report reads.

However, it will remain to be seen as to whether or not Trump’s star is gone for good. It’s previously had police protection – and the Walk of Fame still hosts stars for the likes of Bill Cosby and Kevin Spacey, both of whom have fallen highly from grace in light of sexual allegations (the former having been outright convicted). Is Trump’s star about to be the first to get put out?
