Iréne Theorin to step in for ailing Evelyn Hertlitzius in SF Opera’s ‘Ring’ Cycle
Thursday, 10 May 2018 Soprano Evelyn Herlitzius, who was set to make her San Francisco Opera debut as Brünnhilde in Wagner’s “Ring” Cycle in June, has withdrawn from the production for health reasons. The role, which is central to three of the cycle’s four operas, will be sung by the Swedish soprano Iréne Theorin. Theorin, who made her first appearance with the company in 2011 — she opened the season in the title role of Puccini’s “Turandot” — has sung Brünnhilde in many of the world’s leading opera houses, including the Metropolitan Opera, the Vienna State Opera, the Royal Opera House at Covent Garden and Teatro alla Scala in Milan.
