Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Has Been Revealed – And It’s Going to Be Massiveby 👨‍💻 Graham Pierrepoint

Super Smash Bros Ultimate to feature every single character from previous Smash incarnations

If there’s any Nintendo game which has slowly developed a cult following over the years to the point where it has become an out-and-out phenomenon, it’s Super Smash Bros. The all-star fighting game, which brings together famous Nintendo and third-party characters from various franchises into all-out battle, has seen five different iterations over the past twenty years – and it’s set to make its debut on the Switch console with what appears to be the deluxe – and fittingly – ‘Ultimate’ – version of the game. More than just an upgrading of the Wii U’s hugely popular Smash Bros 4, this edition – Super Smash Bros Ultimate – promises to streamline everything, make it faster than ever, and to bring together each and every single one of the franchise’s stars, past and present, into the fray for the ultimate battle.

For those who don’t have time to count through each of the characters re-joining the battle for the new game, that’s a staggering 65 different characters – thus far – to pick from. It’s been suggested that, as there are so many characters to pick from, there won’t be much of an expectation for ‘new challengers’ – though you can already add Splatoon’s Inkling and Metroid’s Ridley – a very big deal for Smash Bros fans who have been baying for the alien beast to be added to the roster for what seems like a decade or more – to the confirmed list of fighters.

Nintendo’s recent revelations for the new game come as part of their latest ‘Nintendo Direct’ and their stall at E3 – the big electronics expo where videogames and hardware for the year ahead are revealed. As well as Smash Bros Ultimate, the firm revealed Super Mario Party – the latest twist on the popular board game franchise – as well as a port for the hugely popular battle royale Fortnite, which should have already hit the Switch eShop by the time you read this. Super Smash Bros Ultimate, meanwhile, will launch as of December 7th, 2018 – meaning that fans of Nintendo’s classic brawler won’t have long to wait at all until they get chance to get to grips with the new title. There will also be big tournaments set up for those who play the game competitively – meaning that for Nintendo fans, the future is certainly looking very rosy indeed. Roll on December – and we’ll keep you posted with news!
