Anyone who follows the movies of Quentin Tarantino – or anyone who follows movies at all, really – will know that the director’s films are often seen as events in their own right. Love or hate his unique style of film-making, his movies always seem to get people talking – often for their level of controversy but also for their idiosyncratic structuring. He’s largely collaborated with a familiar group of people for some time – it’s no surprise to see Samuel L Jackson pop up in a Tarantino movie – and it seems that he’s keen to bring back two of his most popular leads for his next picture, entitled Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.
Tarantino has reportedly brought back the likes of Brad Pitt and Leonardo DiCaprio to the set, with the duo set to play and actor and his stunt double struggling to find their way in Tinseltown – only to find themselves readily connected to the Hollywood ladder through Sharon Tate, who so happens to be a neighbor of the pair. Sony Pictures appear to be promising a release date for the movie of August 2019, meaning that shooting is very likely going to start taking place over the next few months.

DiCaprio previously starred in Tarantino’s Django Unchained as sinister (and literal) slavedriver Calvin Candie (in a rare antagonist role for the actor), while Brad Pitt played Lt Aldo Raine, leader of a rogue team hunting down and scalping Nazis in Inglourious Basterds. Both roles are among some of the actors’ most striking and celebrated work, making it less than surprising that they are returning to working with the director for his new picture. What’s even more interesting is that this will be the first time ever that both DiCaprio and Pitt will be on screen together – despite having worked together before on The Audition (a short Martin Scorsese film), we will finally get to see two of Hollywood’s royalty sharing the screen – and it’s thanks, apparently, to Quentin Tarantino and his casting team.
Tarantino is a director that always seems to pull in plenty of critical interest, and while his movies may not be to everyone’s tastes, there’s no denying that they get people talking. Pulp Fiction, for one, is frequently listed among ‘best movie ever’ lists – as is Reservoir Dogs. Whether the new movie will rise to the same accolades will remain to be seen!
