If there’s a brand or service which has seen a fall from grace in recent weeks, it’s Snapchat – the perennially popular photo and video sharing service which started out as a temporary snapshot sharing platform – as the app has undergone big design changes which have really not sat well with plenty of regular users. It’s gotten to the point where many have threatened to quit the app for good if changes aren’t reverted – and to the point where multiple guides are popping up to show you how to go back to the ‘old Snapchat’. Remember the changes made to the Facebook wall just under a decade ago? It’s more or less a similar affair – though how many users of FB nowadays will remember what the old system used to look like?
There’s been a petition on Change.org to try and encourage Snap Inc to revert changes made to the user interface of the app, which has reshuffled popular features such as Stories and the Chats function – and with over a million signatures – you read correct – it seems that this is one issue which the Snapsters themselves could hardly avoid. Their support Twitter account has been inundated with complaints in recent weeks – and, at last, it seems that the brand is willing to respond directly to the colossally popular petition – through many are likely to be disappointed.

Snapchat won’t be reverting any changes – and while they understand that many users are coming to terms with the big alterations made, they have generally advised that they will, in time, come to adjust to the new user interface, or UI. “The new Friends page will adapt to you and get smarter over time, reflecting who you’re most likely to be Snapping with at that moment. This same personalization is also true of the new Discover, which will adapt to you the more that you use it.” This is all well and good – but many signers aren’t happy that the old interface isn’t coming back. Snapchat, has, for now, made a concession in the new design – with helpful tabs being highlighted to make its popular sections easier to find.
“We hear you, and appreciate that you took the time to let us know how you feel,” wrote Snapchat in response to the petition. “We completely understand the new Snapchat has felt uncomfortable for many.”
“This new foundation is just the beginning,” they continue, “and we will always listen closely to find new ways to make the service better for everyone.” Therefore – while the brand is actively trying to make their UI more palatable – it seems that a complete revert is off the table.
