‘Star Trek: Lower Decks': Tawny Newsome, Jack Quaid, Noël Wells and Eugene Cordero to Star in Animated Series

‘Star Trek: Lower Decks': Tawny Newsome, Jack Quaid, Noël Wells and Eugene Cordero to Star in Animated SeriesJerry O’Connell, Tawny Newsome, Jack Quaid, Noël Wells, Eugene Cordero and Gillian Vigman have joined the cast of “Star Trek: Lower Decks.” The announcement came during the show’s segment of the “Star Trek Universe” Hall H panel at Comic-Con 2019.

The half-hour animated series, from “Rick & Morty” head writer Mike McMahan, will focus on the support crew serving on one of Starfleet’s least important ships and will be the first production by CBS Eye Animation Productions, CBS Television Studios’ new animation arm.

The series will take place in the year 2380, right after the events of “Nemesis,” show creator Mike McMahan told the crowd at Comic-Con.

Alex Kurtzman, who serves as the showrunner for “Star Trek: Discovery” and captains the “Trek” universe for CBS All Access, is on board under his Secret Hideout banner, as is Roddenberry Entertainment.

The show received a two-season order last October.

Cordero starred most recently in “Tacoma FD” and has also appeared in “Kong: Skull Island” and “The Kings of Summer.” Wells is the writer, director and star of the indie “Mr. Roosevelt” and also appeared in “Master of None” and as a cast member on “SNL.” Quaid stars on the new series “The Boys” and has also appeared in “The Hunger Games” movies. Newsome is a sketch comedian who has appeared in episodes of “Brockmire.” Vignam is best known for her work in “Life Sentence” and “New Girl.” And O’Connell, known for a role in “Stand By Me,” recently appeared on the show “Billions.
