Starbucks releases sustainability initiatives, but some activists say its not enough

On Jan. 21, Starbucks released their sustainability commitment for the new decade. The Seattle-based coffee giant, which will celebrate its 50th anniversary next year, hopes to cut 50 percent of its carbon emissions and 50 percent of its waste sent to landfills by 2030.

Among their sweeping plans for a "resource-positive future," the company hopes to expand its plant-based menu, eliminate single-use plastic waste, build more eco-friendly stores, and invest in environmentally regenerative practices like reforestation.
