One of the issues with starting the latest version of the Pandemic Unemployment Assistance program is the new law requires states to add a new identification verification step for claimants, Cher Haavind, the department spokeswoman, said. That's in place to reduce fraud, which was rampant when PUA was introduced, costing Colorado at least $7 million in fraudulent claims.
