It’s that time again – emphasis on time – as we take a look at what’s gone down in history across the years, decades, centuries and millennia – based on this current week!

May 21st, 1927 and 1932 – A Big Day for Flying Firsts
On this day in 1927, Charles Lindbergh successfully landed in Paris after undertaking the first solo crossing of the Atlantic Ocean by plane – and five years later, Amelia Earhart would land in Ireland, completing the first solo female flight across the same body of water!

May 22nd, 1939 – Hitler and Mussolini Join Forces
It was one of the defining moments of World War II – though not one of the more positive ones – as Adolf Hitler and Benito Mussolini – dictators of Germany and Italy respectively at the time – signed the ‘Pact of Steel’.
Famous Birthday: Novak Djokovic (Tennis Star), 30

May 23rd, 1873 – The Mounties Form
Canada’s famous police force – the North West Mounties – were formed on this day in 1873.

May 25th, 1977 – ‘Star Wars’ Released
It was the movie that kick-started interest in sci-fi cinema all over again – as George Lucas’ original space opera took center stage on the big screen 41 years ago this week. We’re set to see the latest in the saga with Solo very shortly!
Famous Birthday: Sir Ian McKellan (Actor), 78

May 26th, 1967 – Sgt Pepper Sneaks into the Charts
It’d be officially released in the US in a few days’ time, but the legendary Beatles LP ‘Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band’ – with perhaps the most iconic album cover of all time – would be released in the UK. It’s still one of the all-time biggest sellers of its kind on a worldwide scale.
Famous Birthday: Sally Ride (Astronaut), 1951 - 2012

May 27th, 1940 – Dunkirk Evacuation Begins
To end with, a bit of more positive wartime news – as on this day 78 years ago, Operation Dynamo began – where Allied forces, including the British, would begin the evacuation of Dunkirk.
