Elon Musk and the 'Pedo Guy' Saga - He's Getting Sued, Now

One News Page Staff Wednesday, 19 September 2018 ()
Elon Musk and the 'Pedo Guy' Saga - He's Getting Sued, Nowby 👩‍💻 Stephanie Boyd

Elon Musk – serial entrepreneur, general whizz-kid and CEO of both Tesla and SpaceX (as well as having been fundamental in the establishing of PayPal) – has perhaps been at the forefront of the new this year more than he’s ever been. Whether it’s his ambitious goals, his latest prototypes or – if recent headlines are anything to go by – his conduct with others – it seems that Musk is well on course for being a contender as TIME Magazine’s ‘Person of the Year’, on grounds that he’s simply made so much bizarre news. In any case, while he took this week to announce that he will be working with SpaceX to create passenger flights to the Moon in years to come, it seems that a recent adversary of sorts has taken initiative to hit back at the CEO.

Vernon Unsworth was instrumental in helping with the rescue of several Thai teenagers and their coach from a cave that had flooded earlier this year – it was a rescue that caught the attention of media outlets all over the world, and, as such, Musk also took the option to suggest a way in which a submarine of his designing could help release those who were initially trapped. Unsworth declined the offer of support by stating he felt Musk had offered help in the form of a PR stunt – and that he should put his device ‘where the sun doesn’t shine’. Musk, in retaliation, referred to Unsworth on Twitter as ‘Pedo Guy’ – and went on to accuse the British diver of being a ‘child rapist’.

Musk even went on to posture on Twitter that it was ‘strange’ Unsworth hadn’t sued him. This week, it appears he finally got his wish – as Unsworth has mounted a legal battle against the Tesla boss to the tune of $75,000 and an injunction order, which would prevent Musk from making further allegations about the claimant. The lawsuit being filed is, according to official detail, taking placing to ‘punish (Musk) for his wrongdoing and deter him from repeating such heinous conduct’.

No word from Musk or his representatives has been made public at the time of writing – but it’s safe to say this twist in the tale perhaps hasn’t gone the way Musk expected it to. What will happen in due course? Who’s to say – but this is only the latest in a line of choice PR moments from the entrepreneur.
