2019 is still very young indeed, and yet the ongoing dramas facing US President Donald Trump seem to be getting warmed up despite the cold snap. Amid a partial government shutdown spurred on by Trump’s requests for $5 billion + to pay for a border wall with Mexico, new details with regard to alleged Russian collusion, as well as Trump’s team’s relationship with Congress, are coming to light. In short – for Trump, at least – they’re not positive.
It has emerged, according to a report broken by Buzzfeed News, that two federal law enforcement officials have stated Trump requested his former attorney Michael Cohen to lie to Congress. The lie in question is thought to revolve around supposed negotiations to build a ‘Trump Tower’ in Moscow – and the sources in contact with Buzzfeed News report that Trump had requested Cohen inform Congress that negotiations ended sooner than they actually did. It’s thought that this may have been attempted to blur Trump’s involvement in such proceedings.

The alleged actions took place during the ongoing probe into the Trump campaign’s alleged collusion with Russian agents in 2016, it is thought.
According to The Independent, pressure is mounting upon Congress to investigate such allegations, particularly with regard to whether or not the special counsel – Robert Mueller - holds any data on what has supposedly transpired. Some are calling for Trump to either resign outright or to face impeachment if the allegations are proven to be true.

California Congressman Adam Schiff advised that work would begin with regard to finding the truth and taking further action if necessary. “The allegation that the President of the United States may have suborned perjury before our committee in an effort to curtail the investigation and cover up his business dealings with Russia is among the most serious to date.”
“If the Buzzfeed story is true, President Trump must resign or be impeached,” Joaquin Castro – representing Texas – stated on Twitter.
It’s thought that Trump had also planned to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin during his election campaign in 2016, and that he wanted negotiations with regard to a Moscow Trump Tower to be kick-started by Cohen. Trump, however, has continued to denied claims that he has any business links with Russia following his ascension to the Presidency.
It’s the latest in a long line of revelations regarding the murky Russia probe – is there any truth to such claims? We will have to wait and see.
