Louisiana Passes 'Blue Lives Matter' Statute

As part of the backlash to the Black Lives Matter movement, Louisiana has become the first state to pass a "Blue Lives Matter" statute.

The bill adds police officers and firefighters to a list of protected groups who have enhanced penalties for hate crimes against them.

John Bel Edwards, the Democratic governor of the state, has family members who have served as law enforcement officers.
