Oregon student competing in geography bee

Break an oregon student is putting his geography knowledge to the test.

Next month -- he'll be competing to represent the state at the national geographic bee championship in may.

Eli haynes is an eighth grader in medford.

He's says he's been working towards this goal for the past four years.

Not only does he study the test- prep national geographic provides -- he says he also takes lessons from other subjects and applies them to geography.

Eli haynes/going to oregon national geographic state bee: "looking at all the aspects of geography and kind of skimming over it, and all of it, so i'll have a general idea of the questions."

Stitched "it's really cool for eli that he's dreaming big and putting himself out there, because a lot of kids learn not to try anything or do anything where you might fail or it might not go your way."

The state geography bee is happening on april 6th -- at western oregon university.
