Poll: Nearly Half of Parents Use Cell Phones While Driving with Young Children in the Car
Texting and Driving is dangerous, yet still parents are doing it even when their kids are in the car.??????About half of all parents polled in a new study say they use their cellphones while driving with their child in the car.??????The study published in the Journal of Pediatrics was completed by close to 800 parents and ??caregivers in the US.
????One in three of those polled said they have read text messages while driving with a child between the ages of 4 to 10 years old, Newsweek reports.??????And the parents who have their cellphones out while driving are also more likely to not wear a seat belt or even drink while driving.??????These findings should be considered alarming since the study found that around one in four car crashes are caused by distracted driving.????One way that is thought to be a safer way of using technology while driving is using a hands-free device.????However according to Newsweek, a 2016 study found using hands-free devices were just as distracting as hand-held technology.??????The research did not however reveal if children learn dangerous driving behaviors from their parents.
