He wouldn't president.
They call themselves a church.
Their critics call them something else: a hate group.
For two days members of the westboro baptist church-- out of kansas-- will be protesting in spokane.
Our hawk hammer working for you tonight.
He was at both protests today, in front of the convention center and outside gonzaga university... and the notable thing here hawk was that they both stayed peaceful.
Fortunately yes it did, there were at least two dozen law enforcement officers out at both locations, keeping counter protestors separate from the westboro baptist church members.
They actually closed off the sidewalks where the wbc members were so that people couldn't get to them.
Two locationsnatsfive westboro natsfive westboro church members.
Natsdozens of armed policenats and on opposite sides of the street, 13:06:16 (wagar)"why so much hate"messaging that couldn't have had wider contrast.
13:04;21(wagar)"i can't even believe someone would sit here and hold a sign like this."
13:12:40 (wbc)"the world will be dstroyed in fire when jesus returns in wrath."in front of the convention center, westboro members said they were protesting the north american assocation of environmental educators.
They see science as a false religion 13:18:12"they are all lying about god about what his words say, thats awful thats evil."
Joel holroyd, who says she's a nurse and paid her own way from kansas to join her fellow church members in the lilac city, says her message isn't hateful, instead its the opposite.
13:17:45 (wbc)"its not open to interpretation, its not up to whatever i feel, its defined by god."13:16:46 (wbc)"its not a personal animus, we care for you all."
But counter protestors didn't buy it.
13:08:22 (ruhl)"they have lost touch with reality."
They especially didn't buy it at gonzaga.
With westboro members totally against the jesuit foundation of the institution.
13:14:24 (wbc) "those students going to gonzaga are walking the wrong path, hey turn from this path, its not a good university."but even as anger rose, and voices got louder and louder, the zags understood what they were doing .13:19:16 (madsen)"we thought it would be a great exervise in the first ammendment, to say what we say and let them say what they say."easily outnumbering the westboro faction, they say it was their message that will be remembered13:20:23 (madsen) "its not about hate, its about love."
Tomorrow the westboro church members are expected to continue their protests in front of lewis and clark high school.... that according to their website.
The school is not in session tomorrow.hh
