Store fronts smashed in 18th weekend of ''Yellow Vests'' protests
NO REPORTER NARRATION.
Protesters targeted high-end shopping stores on Paris's iconic Champs Elysées, breaking windows and smashing down doors in the 18th weekend of ''Yellow Vests'' protests on Saturday (March 16).
Shops and restaurants along the capital's most famous shopping street had been ransacked by protesters before large numbers of riot police had been able to intervene.
Police used water cannons to help disperse protesters and had arrested more than 30 protesters by late morning as tensions flared.
Protesters have promised to draw bigger numbers to mark the fourth month since the movement erupted in mid-November, over since-scrapped fuel tax hikes and the high cost of living.
However, the weekly demonstrations, held every Saturday in Paris and other cities, have been generally getting smaller since December, when Paris saw some of the worst vandalism and looting in decades.
