O'Rourke lays out $5 trillion climate plan

Beto O'Rourke: "We are releasing the most ambitious climate policy in the history of the United States..." Against the backdrop of California's Yosemite National Park, 2020 candidate Beto O'Rourke on Monday unveiled a sweeping plan to combat climate change...hoping to make the global threat his SIGNATURE issue in the crowded Democratic field.

The detailed climate plan includes mobilizing FIVE TRILLION DOLLARS over 10 years for clean energy technology and infrastructure...shooting for NET-ZERO CARBON EMISSIONS by 2050... The former Texas congressman and Senate candidate said he would halt new drilling leases on federal land amid a series of executive actions aimed at reversing the energy policies of President Donald Trump.

O'Rourke rolled out the plan ahead of a campaign stop at Yosemite with climate scientists….

Beto O'Rourke: "I want you to be part of this effort!" His plan partly aligns with the Green New Deal, a set of policy goals introduced by congressional Democrats, including Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, to transform the U.S. economy to 100 percent renewable energy by 2030, a plan Republicans have rejected as unworkable..

REPUBLICAN SOT Most 2020 Democrats, including Bernie Sanders, Kamala Harris and Elizabeth Warren, have embraced the Green New Deal..

But Republicans have slammed it as unworkable..

.

O'Rourke has been sounding the alarm on climate since he launched his campaign..

Calling it "the greatest threat we face": Beto O'Rourke: "We have no more than 12 years to take incredibly bold action on this crisis…" That remark in Iowa ridiculed as over the top by critics on the right .

O'Rourke said he would reverse Trump's withdrawal the U.S. from the Paris Climate Accords, which Trump said would kill American jobs.

O'Rourke's announcement comes as Democratic candidates struggle to stand out...the race growing more crowded last week when former Vice President Joe Biden threw his hat in the ring...becoming the instant front-runner.

Biden has called the threat from climate change "a matter of survival"...but has not rolled out or endorsed any specific plan.
