Celebrity shoe designer Taryn Rose is helping women feel their best as they re-enter the workforce.

Taryn has a 40 million dollar shoe business, but her beginnings were more humble.

Her family fled from North Vietnam to the South during the Vietnam War and then had to flee again when the South fell.

Fortunate to escape the fighting, her family was able to travel to the U.S., Arkansas to be exact, where they were placed in a refugee camp.

Taryn’s dad, a doctor, knew no one in Arkansas but immediately knew he had to find a sponsor to get his family out of the camp and into a real home.

He started cold calling local physicians from a camp pay phone, and had a stroke of luck when a local family took them in.

Her Dad’s actions taught Taryn a critical lesson about resourcefulness at an early age.

He knew what he had to do and wasn’t going to give up.

Taryn wanted to follow in her father’s footsteps and become a doctor and this dream was fulfilled when she graduated from USC and went on to become an orthopedic surgeon.

Being on her feet 12-14 hours a day and seeing so many other woman suffering from foot problems, she wanted to do something about it.

“I wanted to make shoes that would make women feel good and look good at the same time!” she explained.

With skills in anatomy and sense of style, Taryn set out to marry fashion and function.

In 1998, Taryn changed the footwear industry forever and created shoes that were fashionable, comfortable and good for your feet!

She started the Taryn Rose Footwear Company in her California garage, and they were an instant hit.

She soon pitched Oprah, and once Oprah blurted out “I love your shoes”—it was gangbusters from then on!

Taryn has not only revolutionized the shoe business, but she is an entrepreneur who has become an inspiration for all women.

Taryn gives back not only to her community but to others in need across the country.

She has recently paired up with “Delivering Good”, a non-profit that redistributes excess inventory from the fashion industry, to donate and distribute 5,000 pairs of her comfortable classic black pumps to help woman facing poverty and disaster feel comfortable re-entering the workforce.

Many women who are living in poverty can get donated clothes, but nice, work appropriate shoes always seem to be lacking.

She is also helping the women with their resumes and interview skills by teaming up with the New York non-profit, Bottomless Closet, which helps women in transition from unemployment to work.
