According to Reuters, the massacre of 12 people at a Virginia Beach municipal building now stands as the second-deadliest U.S. workplace shooting since 2000.
The shooting was also the deadliest in the nation this year.
The shooter was a veteran employee who had sent in his resignation hours before opening fire.
He was also fatally shot after a standoff with police.
Police are continuing to investigate and say they still don't know the shooter's motive.
