Holiday Inn Employee's Calm Reaction to Woman's Racist Remark Goes Viral
A hotel worker in Austin, Texas, became a viral sensation after he tweeted his “classy clapback” to a racist customer on June 2.
Craig Brooks, a 26-year-old guest services employee at Holiday Inn Express, recorded his interaction with a woman who had called him a “f***ing n*****” while trying to book a room over the phone.
According to an interview with Insider, the woman appeared agitated on the call, and used the racial slur when she thought she had hung up the phone on Brooks.
Brooks said she showed up to the hotel a few minutes later.
The video shows Brooks calmly confronting her about the racist remark she made.
He tells her that she won’t be getting a room at the hotel.
The woman apologized to Brooks, and pleaded with him to let her stay because her mother had just died.
“It’s above me,” he told her repeatedly.
Brooks also suggested another hotel nearby.
According the same Insider report, Brooks contacted the hotel management after the phone call, and they told him they had a zero tolerance policy of racism towards employees.
“Being that I’m black in today’s society, we have to know how to deal with racism and combative white people, so we have to look at alternative ways to handle situations instead of being aggressive, because they already see us that way,” he said of the incident.
The video had over 11 million views at the time of writing.
