Google Announces 10-Year, $1 Billion Bay Area Housing Plan Announced by Google CEO Sundar Pichai, the company plan will add thousands of new homes to the area.
Three fourths of the $1 billion investment will be used to re-purpose real estate already owned by Google.
On the property, 15,000 new homes will be built "at all income levels." According to Pichai's blog post, the remaining $250 million will "provide incentives to enable developers to build at least 5,000 affordable housing units across the market." Google also committed to donating more to non-profits engaged with homelessness.
The company has pledged to give $50 million this year alone.
