An alligator was spotted on a flooded coastal road in Waveland, Mississippi, on Friday, July 12, as Tropical Storm Barry brought storm surges and flooding to the Gulf Coast.
The storm was expected to make landfall as a hurricane on Saturday morning, according to local media.
The National Hurricane Center said the storm would bring “life-threatening storm surge inundation” along the southern and southeastern coast of Louisiana and parts of Mississippi, long-duration heavy rainfall, flash flooding and river flooding.
Mandatory and voluntary evacuation notices were issued to residents in various areas along the Gulf Coast.
