Regulation That Could
Limit Legal Immigration.
The regulation announced
on Monday makes rejection of
green card and visa applications easier.
Under the rule, low
income and low education
applicants could be rejected.
In addition, those who
have used federal benefits
such as food stamps and housing
vouchers could also be rejected.
The acting US Citizenship and Immigration
Services Director said the rule will encourage
"self-reliance and self-sufficiency for those
seeking to come to or stay in the United States.".
During his statement at the
White House, the acting director also
responded to questions as to whether
the rule unfairly targeted low-income applicants.
We certainly expect people of any income to be able to stand on their own two feet, so if people are not able to be self-sufficient, than this negative factor is going to bear very heavily against them in a decision about whether they'll be able to become a legal permanent resident.
