Low temperatures in the 50s.
An employee is in critical condition tonight -- after a fire and explosion at an albany company.
It broke out just before 8 this morning... at selmet incorporated on seven mile lane.
Selmet makes titanium castings and machine parts for the aerospace industry.
The plant is still closed tonight... and another employee who was taken to the hospital... is home.
Kezi 9 news reporter jillian smukler shows us what happened... intro: many people in the area tell me, hearing that a explosion happened at this specific selmet inc location is concerning.
They say because they expanded back in 2012 it'll affect twice as many employees there.
That means the titanium casting manufacturer now has more than 500 employees that work at their albany location... and surrounding areas.
Daniel mcdonald works across from the plant.
He says when he saw all the paramedics and fire crews show up this morning -- he imagined the worst.
"my first thought was that just because of what's been on the news recently of course first thing im thinking is oh my gosh somebody is in some type of trouble....or they somebody went into the plant with a gun or something."
More than 30 crews responded -- after the call came in just before 8.
Officials say employees got out of the building right away... and i t took about an hour to get the fire on the west side of the plant completely out.
They say they still don't know what started the fire -- but there aren't any leaks or chemical hazards... that the community needs to worry about.
And, it's too soon to know how much damage was done.
