Statewide candidates are keeping the campaign trail hot with just more than two months to go until the general election// courtney ann jackson was at one event where several folks are hoping to see some seats switch from red to blue in november// several democratic candidates delivered their pitch for votes to labor union supporters monday.

They're running in a state that most describe as a red state.

But--- "it's the perfect time for us t turn this state from red to blue."

"the things that are going o in our country and our state that people are ready for someone who will go and fight for them.

And the democratic party has shown that we are fighters.

We are protectors.

We are defenders."

"we need to elect the bes candidate, not the best letter."

Meanwhile, mississippi republicans recently made history.

For the first time ever---more republicans than democrats voted in a state primary election.

But some of the democrats maintain they're expecting to garner votes from both republicans and democrats in november.

"without a doubt.

Based o polling how much i'm pulling from the other side of the aisle and the most common thing i'm hearing whether it's educators, state employees or a truck driver the fact is they're saying i'm voting for the person, not the party.

And we need that.

The two party system is struggling and strangling america and mississippi."

"i'm seeing people come acros the aisle.

I've had republicans, a lot of them encourage me to run for governor cause they know what we're doing is not working.

Our kids are leaving our state.

So, i'm worried about the same issues they are.

That's what is comforting is to see both democrats and republicans come together in the middle and you can govern with that kind of coalition."

The general election will be held november 5.

Courtney ann jackson, wcbi news centered a candidate for northern district transportation commissioner wants mississippi contractors to get the first shot at doing work on road projects in the state.

Joe grist was in tupelo this morning to announce phase one of "the gris plan" fo mississippi department of transportation.

Grist, who currently serves as a state representative, says he wants to put hardworking mississippians first when awarding contracts through m-dot.

"our companies especially need to be educated on how to get in this, i had a state representative tell me that the reason we didn't have more mississippi companies doing this is because they didn't understand the bid process and it's time we get out here and educate our folks on the bid process and make it easier for mississippi companies to do mississippi work."

Grist faces republican john caldwell in the general election on november 5th.

Developing stinger a video on social media shows a woman being turned away from a booneville wedding venue, because of her race// it's sparking controversy and conversation// take a listen to the exchange between a woman and an employee of the boone's camp event hall// "first of all we don't do ga weddings for mixed race.

Because of our christian race.

I mean our christian belief.

Okay, we're christians as well, so what in the bible tells you that?

I don't want to argue my faith.

We just don't participate.

We choose not to.

So, that's your christian belief right?

The video was posted to twitter over the weekend// it's been viewed over 21- thousand times// in the video the woman states that because of their christian beliefs they don't do gay weddings or wedding for mixed races and biracial couples// we've reached out to boone's camp event hall who has not returned our calls// mississippi law states that businesses do have the right to refuse services to gay couples// since the video, the event hall has taken down it's facebook page and also made a post apologizing saying in part, what the thought was correct and supported by the bible was in fact wrong// to see that full statement we'll have it on our website at wcbi dot com // first look stinger first look dorian continues to be a big problem for the bahamas but the latest track is keeping the center of the storm off the coast of the usa.

Look at the history of labor coming up we look at the history of labor history of labor most people associate labor day with a three day weekend, or maybe the last chance for a summer barbeque.

And that's not necessarily a bad thing.

The labor day holiday is a time set aside to honor the american labor movement and the power of collective action by laborers.

Folks at a labor union in columbus say the holiday can be spent however the working class sees fit.

"they started the movement t recognize labor day as a holiday, and it's a day we set aside to recognize the working force of america....to me so many of the things you use, i mean everything you buy in the store or online or whatever is made by someone.

You look around and everything we've got was made by somebody, and it's their job to make it."

Green says many people don't realize that labor unions were the driving force behind the holiday// now thought, holiday is over so it's back to work for everyone tomorrow// welcome back// suicide is one of the top ten leading causes of death in the united states according the c- d-c// it's a touchy topic to talk about but one that needs awareness// we learn more in our health talk with baptist// hi, i?m amanda coleman, clinical coordinator of the behavioral health department at baptist memorial hospital golden triangle.

Tonight i want to bring awareness to a topic that people are often uncomfortable discussing ?

Suicide.

Suicide is self-injurious behavior with intentions of causing one?s own death.

It is the tenth leading cause of death in the united states according to the most recent data from the centers for disease control and prevention .

People of all genders, ages, and ethnicities can be at risk.

Risk of suicide is highest for men over 69.

However, it is the second leading cause of death for people between the ages of 10-34.

Although suicidal thoughts are common, they should be taken seriously and addressed by a health care professional.

More than half of people who have died by suicide did not have a known mental health condition.

Things such as physical health, financial troubles, relationship problems, and legal issues can be stressors.

Common risk factors also include substance abuse disorders, family violence, abuse history, and exposure to suicidal behavior.

Individuals who have previously attempted suicide are at a higher risk for future attempts.

Due to stigma and lack of access to mental health services, many peomany people do not reach out for help when thoughts of suicide occur.

If you or someone you know has been showing signs of depression or suicidal thoughts, please contact the suicide prevention lifeline or call 911.
