The last time newport lost an officer in the line of duty was 19-18.((kevin)) fox 16's stephanie sharp spoke with a man who says lt.
Weatherford was a friend and a huge part of the newport community..
((stephanie))many in the newport community are mourning the loss of lt.
His body is here at the funeral home.
We spoke with a person who has known lt.
Weatherford for years.
Emotionally - he says he's trying to wrap his mind around what happened.

((stephanie))visitation will be held thursday at jackson's newport funeral home from 2-to-4 and 5- to-9.
The funeral service will be held friday at , eleven a-m at the a-s-u newport center for the arts.and he will be buried at chesier cemetery in tuckerman.

Weatherford served on the newport police force for 15 years and had recently graduated from the fbi academy.
He was also a graduate of asu- newport and the university of arkansas at little rock.
He was recognized as the á2016 jackson county officer of the yeará - by arkansas attorney general leslie rutledge..weatherford is survived by his wife - 21 year old daughter and seven year old son.
((kevin)) state police say an 18-year-old suspect turned himself in about an hour and half after weatherford's death.
Tonight -- tyler calamese is being held in connection to his murder.... but so far no formal charges have been filed.
But according to jackson county jail records -- calamese has been arrested on suspicion of capital murder.
He's scheduled to appear for a bond hearing tomorrow morning at 9am.
((kevin)) faith davis is a former classmate of calamese.
She remembers the basketball and football player - who would be a senior with her this upcoming school year.
She told us today -- his future after high school seemed bright.
Faith davis, former classmate"he's a good kid.
I don't really see a reason to change views about him now.
Just kind of be there for him, whether he did it or not."
Davis says she can't understand how calamese could be at the center of lt.
Today---the governor ordering all flags in the state be flown at half staff -- in honor of lieutenant weatherford.
And he released this statement--saying in part-- "we are forever indebted to men and women like lt.
Weatherford -- who put their lives on the line every day to keep others safe.."
