Good evening montana... the glacier student section from kalispell kicks off our show... the postseason starts this weekend for class a, b & c teams... but for 'aa' tonight was the regular season finale and it came with several local schools still fighting for a spot in the playoffs... one of those teams the glacier wolfpack... trying to end the season with four wins in their last five games hosting hellgate... and fans didn't even have time to find their seats before the scoreboard got busy tonight... first play from scrimmage is drew turner exploding up the middle... and once it's a foot race you can kiss the future montana grizzly goodbye... 7-0 wolfpack... speaking of foot races... remind me not to get into one of those with mark estes... here's the glacier wide receiver streaking down the field and hauling in a perfect pass from evan todd... glacier jumps out to a 21-0 lead eight minutes into the game... final seconds of the opening qtr... and the knights get into the endzone... rollie worster fakes the handoff and keeps it himself for six to put hellgate on the board... but glacier was no match tonight for hellgate... this time todd finds max morris who fights across for the touchdown... glacier wins 69-21 however despite their win... the wolfpack needed help in the form of billings skyview upsetting the bozeman hawks... after an early fumble recovery by bozeman... hawks near the goal-line... and choate plows it in for six... capitalizing on the turnover that he himself created... bozeman up 7-0 to the third quarter...bozeman on its first drive... hand-off goes to joe olson...and he has a huge hole up the middle..
The junior would go 73 yards to the end zone untouched...to put bozeman back in front... that was the big play the hawks needed...as they go on to win 42-22 to advance to the state playoffs... thanks to the sentinel cheer squad and student section for keeping us going tonight...those sentinel spartans with a huge game tonight to keep their postseason dreams alive.
In missoula....a sentinel win against helena captial means a playoff berth...a loss and things get complicated.... in the second quarter....spencer peppenger on for the field goal...big brother gabe kicks for the cats and how bout the little brother...just enough leg from 43 yards out to extend the sentinel lead to 6 to nothing.
After a captial interception... rylan ortt leads the spartans 99 yards down the field...ort on the read option looking for the corner he's got it...the spartans in the end zone up 13 to nothing after the extra point.... next posession of the ballgame spartans on d....they look to have the quarterback wrapped up but he slips away finally gets the ball off and how bout the senior cameron hegel flying in for the interception on senior night.... that sets up ortt and the offense in great position...this time ortt keeps it all the way absorbs the hit and he's in for the score and the spartans are playoff bound after a huge win tonight...41 to 6.
Big sky on the road in butte to wrap up the regular season in another class aa matchup... the eagles already clinched a home playoff game... early in the first quarter...big sky quarterabck levi janacaro on the keeper... doing what he does and bulldozing his way into the end zone for six points.... big sky would take a 7-0 lead..
Later on now with game tied 7-7... janacaro again using his legs... this time he doesn't need to break a tackle... as the senior jogs into the end zone for another eagles touchdown to make it 14-7... early 2nd qtr now... if it ain't broke... don't fix it... janacaro the human highlight reel... hurdles a man this time... then shakes off another for his third touchdown run in the early going... big sky dominated their way to victory in this one 49-21... so here you go... these are the eight teams that have advanced into the class aa playoffs... the defending state champ senior broncs are the #1 seed... followed by missoula big sky... flathead will get to host a playoff game against capital next week as the 4-seed... sentinel and bozeman both squeek in as the final two seeds thanks to earning wins tonight... and finally from tonight's football action... one local team started the postseason this evening as valley christian battled on the road at bridger to start the 6-man playoffs... but bridger steam-rolled the eagles at home tonight 66-0... the scouts advance to another home game next week in the quarterfinals that does it for our high school football this evening... but we have plenty more prep action to cover with state soccer underway... those highlights are next after this... tournament continued today in missoula with semifinal games this afternoon... we'll start with boys action of hellgate against bozeman... the knights jumped out to a 3-1 lead in the first half... here in the second half... hellgate looking to add an insurance goal... the ball ends up with beckett arthur... he boots a laser towards goal but hawks keeper jovial milich lays it out to make a terrific stop... bozeman would keep hellgate scoreless in the second half... but it wouldn't matter if the hawks couldn't find the net... here on the free kick it's ted scott with the header... just off the mark though... as neither team scored in the second half today and hellgate held on to win it 3-1 the final score... advancing them back to the title game for a 4th straight season... just one field over... the glacier wolfpack boys were looking to win a state semifinal game for the first time ever... to reach that feat the 'pack would have to pull off the upset of the year taking on the undefeated billings senior broncs... and the 'pack were ready to go out of the gates... here on the early corner kick from tapetta... how about dyllyn stabler... picture perfect header that finds the corner for a goal... as the wolfpack set the tone early 1-0... senior would tie the game late in the second half so here in stoppage time... glacier looking to go back in front on the corner kick... the ball lands right at the foot of conner heil for a tap in goal... as the wolfpack pull it off today... handing senior their first loss of the season by a final score of 2-1 and advancing to the state title game... so the state soccer title games are all set now... here's what we're looking at for championship saturday... in the boys battle it will be the 2- time defending state champs from hellgate taking on glacier... the knights have made it this far for the 7th time in the past decade... meanwhile this is the first ever title game appearance for the wolfpack... the state championship game gets underway at 12:30 tomorrow afternoon... and that's also the start time for the girls title game tomorrow at fort missoula... that contest will feature the defending state champion bozeman hawks against helena high... the bozeman girls are aiming for their 6th state title in the past 12 years... the bengals are trying to make it two out of three after winning it all in 2015... and also on saturday... the class 'a' boys state champion will be crowned in belgrade... the home field panthers will look to win their second in a row hosting whitefish... the bulldogs are going for their sixth state title and their first since 2012... this game starts at noon and we'll have those highlights on the saturday news at five... in college soccer action today...the montana grizzlies looked to finish the season unbeaten at home...a win or draw meant the grizzlies would earn a first round bye and be the number 2 seed in next week's big sky conference... the griz hosted portland state this afternoon for senior day.... this match went the distance and ended in a 1-1 tie after extra time.... montana got on the board first and then portland state answered in the first half...plenty of chances in the second half and extra time for both sides to get the game winning goal, but excellent goalkeeping kept it scoreless.
The grizzlies best chance came here in extra time, but charlene burger's shot was punched away by the portland state keeper.
