Bulldogs beat Montana State behind 31 pts from Deshon Taylor

Welcome back.

It was announced on thanksgiving that next thanksgiving the men's basketball team will compete in the wooden legacy.

That's in fullerton.

And the bulldogs will be one of eight teams in that annual tournament.

Along with hawai'i, lasalle, miami, northwestern, seton hall, utah...and a team to be named later.

Andrew so that's the mountain west, big west, atlantic 10, a-c- c, big ten, big east and pac-12 represented.

Not bad... today the bulldogs played a team from the big sky.

Julia lopez joins us now with more on that... julia yeah, the bulldogs returned to fresno after playing a few road games... one in arkansas... two in cancun.

But today the guys were back on their home court.

Let's head to the save mart center where the bulldogs were playing host to the montana state bobcats... a mini steph curry sighting... check out the ball handling... through the legs... keep an eye on him... --------------------- alright, here we go.... 'dogs up 56-42... deshon taylor drives to the rack... goes up and under... taylor finished with a game-high 31 and was 11 of 12 from the line.

---------------------- the big men, bryson williams and terrell carter, got into foul trouble... but nate grimes steps up... he finished with three blocks, and added six points.

--------------------- later... off the miss... jaron hopkins gets the rebound... later... off the miss... jaron hopkins gets the rebound... takes it this way... nice little move... gets it to go, plus one!

Hopkins had 5 points, 6 boards... and fresno state is up 66-48.

--------------------- the bobcats won't mail it in... tyler hall with the sweet the bobcats won't mail it in... tyler hall with the sweet stroke... good for three... hall's an nba draft prospect who averages about 24 a game... he was held to just 13 today.

But the bulldogs win, 80-67... they improve to 4 and 2 overall... and a perfect 3 and oh at home.

[d4]mbb vs montana state-sot 00-05 24-29 30-35 ray bowles "i pretty much take a lot of pride in defense, i'm not too worried about scoring the ball, i know that hall is a good scorer and i knew that uh i had to focus on trying to eliminate his catches, that's pretty much all i focused on today, and then offense was get others involved."

Deshon taylor "we were in one on one with 12 minutes left coach said keep driving the ball, don't settle for outside jumpers and attack the paint as much as we can and that's what we did."

Rodney terry "it hasn't been something we've tried to really harp on, we know that we're gonna be in close games all year long and we came up a little short against evansville particularly in that area uh but our guys rolled our sleeves up and just like we always know in terms of trying to fix something you gotta get in there and work at it, i give them a lot of credit in terms of getting in and putting in the time in the last couple of days and working on their free throw shooting and it's just repitition and getting in there and trying to do it a high level.

We were 90 percent in the second half, i think we were a little over 80 percent for the game."

Julia the bulldogs were 32 of 39 from the free throw line today... and it's all about repetition... the guys usually have to make a hundred free throws after practice, as a team, before they leave the gym... but yesterday, they bumped it up to 150 free throws... so it definitely worked in their favor today.

Andrew thanks, julia.

[d6]what's next-ss the next game for the men's basketball team is thursday against weber state.

The bulldogs will try for their third win in a row.

On saturday they're in long beach.

The bulldog women are at u-c santa barbara on thursday.

On saturday they're in northridge to play c-sun.

They women have lost four straight games.
