A retired rabbi from Eugene’s Temple Beth Israel said he was running late the morning of the shooting at a Pittsburgh synagogue, which may have saved his life.

It might have been fate or an act of god that made rabbi husband?

Hankin from getting to the synagogue on time saturday morning.

He led a service there friday night and his friend was leading the service saturday morning, which he was supposed to attend.

He says he was running late and received a phone call from a friend about what was happening.

He says he went to the synagogue anyway worried for his friend.

When he got there he stayed on the perimeter?

Where he heard rapid gunfire.

He says the shooting was an attack on everything we "of being a mult?ethnic and mult?faith and the beautiful nation that we've been developing."

He says his friend his focus now is praying for his friend and the countless others that were impacted.
