The base was abandoned by U.S. forces following the order of U.S. troop withdrawal from Syria, issued by Trump last week.

Russian officials in Moscow announced that Russian units are now carrying out patrols in northern Syria.

According to a U.S. official, U.S. troops have indeed withdrawn from the Syrian town of Manbij.

A U.S. military spokesman would not confirm the presence of Russian troops in the town.
