New Orleans demolition crews on Sunday used controlled explosions to take down two damaged construction cranes at the site of the Hard Rock Hotel in New Orleans that partially collapsed last week, killing workers.

Neighborhoods around the area were evacuated ahead of the demolition.

The Hard Rock Hotel construction project partially collapsed last week, killing three workers.

The project is at the edge of the city's French Quarter and authorities hoped to demolish the cranes without damaging historic buildings, officials told reporters.
