Breken Terry Shows us how a deadly crash after a police crash in Lauderdale County happened.

The agencies involved in the investigation.

Debris like this is still strewn about here along highway 72 officials and neighbors here tell me ashton aigner lost control of the stolen vehicle he was in and actually struck this culvert, then the car flipped and he was ejected.

He did die a short time later at the hospital.

Florence police told me this all started around 1:00 saturday morning, when an officer responded to a report of a stolen mitsubishi outlander from the rising crust pizza place along florence boulevard/ highway 72.

As the officer was filling out his paper work, someone passed him in an outlander matching the description of the stolen one.

That driver was ashton aigner.

The officer tried to stop the driver, but says he sped up.

A chase began, with officers from the killen and rogersville departments getting involved.

As the departments chased aigner, they say he lost control and flipped.

Florence police tell us their officer had fallen behind in the chase and did not witness the crash, which happened just after 3am.

Aigner was thrown from the vehicle and later died at the north alabama medical center.

Florence police handed the case over to the alabama law enforcement agency to investigate.

Florence and killen police departments told waay31 none of their officers are on paid leave because there are no indications they did not follow protocol.

It's unclear how fast police and aigner were going at the time of the crash.
