Congressman Adam Schiff, the Democrat leading impeachment hearings in Congress, said Wednesday after receiving prepared remarks from U.S. Ambassador to the European UnionGordon Sondland that "the knowledge of this scheme was far and wide and included among others, Secretary of State Pompeo as well as the vice president."
Knowledge of Trump-Ukraine 'scheme' was far and wide: Schiff
During opening remarks on Wednesday, Schiff said the Intelligence Committee has not received a single document from the State Department and said "those documents bear directly on this investigation and this impeachment inquiry." A U.S. diplomat who is a key witness in the impeachment inquiry into President Donald Trump said on Wednesday he worked with Trump's personal attorney Rudy Giuliani on Ukraine issues on "the President's orders." Gordon Sondland, the U.S. ambassador to the European Union, said in prepared remarks to the investigation that Giuliani's efforts to push Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy for investigations into Trump's political rivals "were a quid pro quo for arranging a White House visit" for the Ukrainian leader.
